Lil Yachty’s “Love Music” (music video)
What was your first professionally directed work and when was it?
Olivia O’Brien x Asos–“Now” Music Video and Back to school product featuring of August 2020. I had creative directed for a couple years prior, but this was my first proper debut in terms of directing a music video.
How did you get into directing?
I got into directing after working as an art director and creative director in the music industry space.
What is your most recent project?
Lennon Stella’s “Fancy” music video and CHLOE at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards performance. I have also finished shooting a couple projects that will be releasing early next year in 2022.
What is the best part of being a director?
The relationships that you get to build and the amazing people that you get to meet and collaborate with. I love the process of brainstorming, then prepping and bringing a vision to life and having the time on set to play.
What is your current career focus: commercials and branded content, television, movies? Do you plan to specialize in a particular genre–comedy, drama, visual effects, etc.?
Ideally, I would love to start focusing on more short form and long form content in film and television as well as focus on world building and storytelling. I have always been inspired by Tim Burton and the complex nuances of old-school anime.
Tell us about your background (i.e., where did you grow up? Past jobs?)
I grew up in Los Angeles. I am Korean American.
